Dear District 2 Neighbor,

On December 5, 2009 a District 2 Youth Initiative Summit was held at St. Philips College.  I along with nearly 65 youth organization leaders met in an open forum to develop a sustainable program that addresses the unique challenges and needs for our youth. 

After hours of brainstorming and discussion, we identified obstacles, strengths, and opportunities that impact our youth.  At the end of the day the group outlined the following for my office to support and/or champion:

• A comprehensive database or institutional product that will include all organization, events, and groups that pertain to youth.
• Support youth fairs 4 times a year
• Build multimedia communications
• Implementation of life skills training

In the next few weeks my office will proactively work on implementation strategies for each of these goals.  I am very encouraged by the participation of youth and youth leaders and look forward to reporting back to you all on the progress we have made.  If you have any questions please do not hesitate to call Lauren at 207-0950.
