Town Hall Meeting: Nuclear Energy

You're invited to attend a District 2 Town Hall meeting on Tuesday, August 4th in the Freeman Coliseum. Sign-up to speak starts at 5:00 PM and the program begins at 6:00 PM. We will hear from representatives of City Public Service about a proposal to expand the capacity of the CPS owned Nuclear Power Plant in Bay City, TX. I encourage you to attend this information session, ask questions and voice any concerns you have. I will be there to get input from you on this issue.

Sincerely Yours,

Ivy R. Taylor,

District 2 Councilwoman

Ivy,
It would be great if you would provide the residents of Dist. 2 some information about the subject matter prior to the meeting.Perhaps some of the arguments (pro and con) relative to thge issue to be discussed.Working people don't have the luxury of Time to bone-up on the issues as we would like sometimes.perhaps, notes from council discussions or committee/board notes, etc. would help to bring us up to speed .

Councilwoman Taylor, a well informed person is able to make intelligent decisions based on the concern(s) at hand. I too would like more info on the situation/idea prior to the August 4th meeting. It has been my experience to attend meetings with the lack of appropriate information to make sound decisions. Thanks for the invitation.

Just curious as to why CPS and City Counncil and other elected officials in Bexar County are not including solar and wind power to these discussions.
Yes, Iknow CPS has a Wintricity program - which I do support - but you hearlittle to nothing about either. Too bad Faye Sinkin is not around.

I look forward to the August 4 meeting. A consistent problem with nuclear based power options is COST. Any commitment to nuclear power on the part of CPS means costs that are passed along to the consumers. Nuclear power plants are VERY EXPENSIVE and I know of no nuclear power plant project that has ever come into existence at the costs projected. All original and additional costs are passed along to consumers.

I suggest that the cost concerns be passed along to the presenters with the expectation that a question on cost containment will be forthcoming in the presentation. The concern for the safety of nuclear power has long been resolved by the industry across the country and around the world. It pales in comparison to the concerns rate payers should have for costs. I'll see you at the meeting! Thanks, Ivy, for providing the opportunity.

CPS's first priority should be energy efficiency and conservation. There's a power plant's worth of energy in simple retrofitting of our housing and commercial buildings, and a lot of federal stimulus money to help. Why don't we do it? Because our city government is dependent on revenues from energy sales, to the tune of 1/3 of our city budget (over $300 million a year). The answer to this problem is decoupling legislation, which allows a utility to make profits by serving the same customer base with less energy.California has successfully done this and now uses less energy per capita than any other state. Many other states are considering decoupling legislation. COSA and CPS should urge our legislators to get this done.

How about letting other electric companies compete with CPS as our energy providers. Since the State of Texas became deregulated, it is time for CPS to quit monopolizing the energy bussiness here in San Antonio and the surrounding communities. That way we would not be having this Nuclear Power Plant at our mist.

BAY CITY IS MY KIND OF TOWN..... BAY CITY IS... POWER !
THE QUESTION REMAINS, WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THIS PROPOSAL.
I REMEMBER THE HELEN DUTTMER YEARS ON THE CITY COUNCI. IT WAS CONFLICT THEN. HERE WE ARE IN THE YEAR 2009 AND STILL WE NEED CLARITY. SO MUCH IS UNCLEAR.DOES THE CITY SELL NUCLEAR ENERGY?
I WOULD APPRECIATE MR. MILTON LEE DOING THE RIGHT THING BY EXPLAINING WHAT'S UP?
