One week as your councilperson and we've already made
progress. On June 25th we were able to approve two new projects in
our district. These projects had been initiated during my
predecessor's term and I had the opportunity to support them.
The
first project includes the acquisition of 3.65 acres of land and new
construction at Walters Street between IH 35 and the Fort Sam Houston
Main Gate. As well as the reconstruction and widening of the existing
road to six traffic lanes, with sidewalks, driveway approaches, bike
lanes, turn lanes, a raised median and drainage and traffic signal
improvements at only 20% cost to the city. This project will
certainly provide much needed revitalization and growth management in
relation to the Base Closure and Realignment which is projected to
bring over 12,000 new jobs to our City.
The second project is
funded through the 2007 Five Year Facilities and Renovation Bond
Program and authorizes a contract to provide improvements to the
Dellcrest Park. These improvements include the construction of an
entry drive, parking spaces, picnic units, electrical service,
security lighting, water service, the creation of an irrigation
system, upgrades to the ball field and playground, and the addition
of ADA compliant sidewalks. These upgrades have been long awaited by
the Dellcrest community. Funds were originally approved in 2003, but
were then reallocated to another Park.
I have some more
exciting news to share. We recently launched a new constituent
website. This is a demonstration of my commitment to remaining
accountable and accessible, and will be a great tool for me to keep
you informed on new projects in the district and upcoming community
events. Take a moment to visit the site at www.ivyrtaylor.org.
Thank you for all your support and everything you do to make our
community better.
Sincerely Yours,

District
2 Councilwoman Ivy R. Taylor
