New Projects, New Website

One week as your councilperson and we've already made progress. On June 25th we were able to approve two new projects in our district. These projects had been initiated during my predecessor's term and I had the opportunity to support them.

The first project includes the acquisition of 3.65 acres of land and new construction at Walters Street between IH 35 and the Fort Sam Houston Main Gate. As well as the reconstruction and widening of the existing road to six traffic lanes, with sidewalks, driveway approaches, bike lanes, turn lanes, a raised median and drainage and traffic signal improvements at only 20% cost to the city. This project will certainly provide much needed revitalization and growth management in relation to the Base Closure and Realignment which is projected to bring over 12,000 new jobs to our City.

The second project is funded through the 2007 Five Year Facilities and Renovation Bond Program and authorizes a contract to provide improvements to the Dellcrest Park. These improvements include the construction of an entry drive, parking spaces, picnic units, electrical service, security lighting, water service, the creation of an irrigation system, upgrades to the ball field and playground, and the addition of ADA compliant sidewalks. These upgrades have been long awaited by the Dellcrest community. Funds were originally approved in 2003, but were then reallocated to another Park.

I have some more exciting news to share. We recently launched a new constituent website. This is a demonstration of my commitment to remaining accountable and accessible, and will be a great tool for me to keep you informed on new projects in the district and upcoming community events. Take a moment to visit the site at www.ivyrtaylor.org. Thank you for all your support and everything you do to make our community better.

Sincerely Yours,

District 2 Councilwoman Ivy R. Taylor

Ivy, congratulations on your victory! I truly believe you are what we need - a fresh face and a determined attitude. May God bless you in your position. I know this is not in the top ten on your list, but if there is any input you have on San Antonio obtaining a decent radio station where African Americans can have a venue to advertise about upcoming events, be informed on items we need to know about and just to have some decent music, a variety of jazz, R&B, blues and decent rap. I am so tired of hearing "Birthday Sex", "Stanky Legs", and all the other music other stations play. Thank you, Carolyn Hardin

Dear Councilwoman Taylor,

District Two has been waiting all these years for someone like you, and with your credentials, to come along and represent us. We've been left behind in terms of the other districts in the city and look forward to you taking this district to the next level. Our district deserves to be on the same par as the rest of the city and I have confidence in your interest and ability to get us there.

As a resident of Precinct 4040 which encompasses the Willow Wood, Meadowview and Meadowview North subdivisions, I am exceedingly glad you're our Councilwoman and look forward to working with you and your staff. God bless you!

Ivy,

I believe District 2 will have great things to look forward to. Also, I believe you can count on the neighborhoods, nonprofits, churches, and other organizations to move forward with you to create a more positive way of doing business and working within the community to improve the community.

Under your leadership, I hope to see a better Inner City TIRZ, one that does the job it was originally intended to do for those who reside in District 2. Projects intended for the wealthy should not be built on the backs of the poor. We must correct this unintended pattern of the Inner City TIRZ and move forward.

Thanks for the forum to speak.
